I notice some trumpet players have gold rim m.p. or the whole m.p.is gold is this for show?(it does look rather nice) or does it feel different is there a reason to have this, and is it expensive? Thank you Anthony

Gold is less likely to provoke an allergic reaction than most finishes.

Gold is also more "slippery" if you want some lip mobility across the rim.

For me, a silver plate piece looks great on my silver plate Yammie and Getzen, but a gold plate piece looks fabulous on my gold plate Wild Thing. Vanity tops everything :-)

Gold IS slippery. I LIKE slippery. I started converting all my mouthpieces over to gold, except for my Jet tone. That mouthpiece will never leave my sight, as I can't even remotely risk loosing it in the mail. Besides my Harrelson will be silver, and that silver piece on that silver horn will make me.... Unstoppable!!! Mwah... ha.. ha.. ha.. ha.. ha..!!!

A gold rim on a silver underpart in a silver trumpet looks cool. My Monette mouthpieces are early and therefore silver plated. They look cool too. Besides being slippery and cool looking gold seems to warm up a bit quicker than silver. And gold looks cool.
