I've got a new piece to learn for a gig coming up - Zoot Suit Riot - and it has "growl" directives all the way through...

Is there a correct way to growl? I've tried a few in other songs but was never that happy with the result (usually by pushing some air past my tongue against the roof of my mouth).

Like clearing your throat. I actually make my uvula vibrate.

really? I flutter my tongue, much easier(but I guess I'm doing the throat clearing thing at the same time).

Tongue flutter - that's what I end up doing -- but more due to losing control, and the sound turns into a sort of trill if I'm not careful.

After looking up the word uvula I think I'll give that a go and see what sound that produces...

Growling and flutter tonguing sound totally different. I naturally growl when playing The Stripper. Let the back of your throat loose and growl like a tiger. Or go "Arrrrrggggggg" like a pirate.

Ya, thats it. The higher you have to go, the lower you have to try to humm. Sometimes its easier if you dont try so hard. Best wishes.
