I place the thumb tip on the bottom of the lead pipe, usually just in front of the first valve casing. Where on the lead pipe really depends on the size of you hands, but I want it forward enough to enable the open, arching posture needed for the right hand....

    Yeah, right!

Is there anybody out here who can explain the adequate synonyms and foreign words used in this thread for us
who haven't graduated from Washington State University or Montana State University?

    By the way:

Hold the trumpet with your left hand
and push down the valves with your right hand!
Blow air of different speeds into the smallest hole!
    Make music!

I use abstrusely the two under, two over, index in slide ring, cupping-palm left-hand grip. Right thumb goes between 1 & 2 under leadpipe, pinky on ring and not in it if I am obsequiously attentive enough to remember. Am trying to play with flat fingers like Reinhardt suggested, but years ago learned to curl and play with fingertips which indubitably causes valve hang-ups on some of my horns.

If you need pressure upstairs, you will find a way - with or without. Relaxed CAN be had with, so my opinion is it doesn't matter. We can make an excuse out of temptation anywhere in life. Strength of character, diligent habit building, solid practice are the recipes for success - with or without the ring!

    Pinky Police: no thanks

i seriously doubt it has been that long, as you guys are acting like you're in second grade...

start a new thread if you want to hash it out, because no one else cares

Can the administrator please delete the totally irrelevant posts? I liked the way this thread was going and think it has some good info.
