Harry James with trumpet jazz swing music band leader antique photo | eBay
Absolutely, It is a Selmer Balanced Model. You can tell by the bracing and the extensive awards engraved on the bell. I have a similar period horn a 20A, but it is not the Balanced Model. He liked the Balanced model because he had very long arms. Later King won him over. The Selmer is
much sought after. Louis Armstrong played the same model.
He did get King to make balanced models for him, though
Harry James' Selmer Balanced was highly engraved and a beautiful horn. It sold in April 2011 for an undisclosed amount.
I believe one of the small/custom builders had one of Harry's balanced Kings up for sale a year or so ago as well. Think he was at around $6000 for it. Maybe Scodwell?
Hey guys ... What would a vintage French Selmer Paris professional trumpet (circa 1950), a Louis Armstrong model with extensive engraving that was in great shape sell for? Inquiring Turtles need to know.
It looks very nice in the photos, but doesn't look like a balanced model.
can we see the photos? My 1947 Selmer Grand prix engraved right to the bell bow in reasonable condition I think I paid around $1000, my Balanced model in not so good condition, requires valve job and refinishing $1200, here in Aus the s/h prices are approx 50% higher than in the states. There is currently a Balanced for sale here at $1595, see Ozwinds Brass and Woodwind, in very good condition.
That was probably the same one I saw!
