I found it is easier to play with braces. I got them on in 6th grade and off in 8th. I was horrible for about 3 weeks until I learned to play. Why did you have braces for 4 years?

I had to have braces for four years because while I had them I had to get my wisdom teeth out the summer of this year. Two years ago I had two teeth that wouldn't come out so i had to remove the two teeth to let them out by having a chain to gradually pull them into place. Yeahhh :/

    That sucks, wear the retainer!

I find that when you play with out braces you can get a better tone.

I get my retainer later this week and have been advised by my friends to wear it.
How does playing without braces give a better tone?

I feel that I could play much more open without braces, I have had them off for almost 3 years. It could be me but I found that my lips were better because they didn't have gouges in them from being cut from the braces. You will see that it is much easier to play without braces, my high range went down to G when I got them off and it took me about a month to get back to the C.

Your lips also are not stretched as tightly as they were when the braces were over them. And when your lips are closer to the teeth, you can firm your corners better.

Just do long tones, lip slurs, just about everything will help.

I agree with Cody on this. Of course, you can always do mouthpiece work, but I'd ask your teacher for specifics on that. Right now I think it'd be a little too soon to be putting that much strain on the redeveloping embouchure.
