Without a mouthpiece or instrument buzzing with lips or free buzzing as it is called has little more purpose than a novelty ... except to attain the lip sensation of buzzing. Such then may be enhanced by a piece of wax paper inserted between the lips that when you then blow produces a kazoo like tone. Others attain such with a throat hum through the barely open lips. A buzz with the mouthpiece is essential to produce the vibratory sine wave of the tone.
If I live 4 1/2 more months, I'll be 80 yo.
PS - none of my old Conn Director cornets and trumpets have an Amado water key, although many prefer them and have a tech replace the original with them.
All helpful advice, thanks to all. And good luck to you bud.
Already 26 posts about someone who tried a horn for two weeks without any competent escort and is complaining about his sound and about difficulties in the high register.
