When I play with a practice mute, I can hear fairly clearly the buzzing of my lips and the air flow in my mouthpiece. Is it better to have a loud buzzing sound there are not? Counter intuitively the louder the buzzing/airflow is the purer the tone seems.

Where is the problem? Does that sound scare you? Of course the vibration is transmitted through the facebone structure to the ears.

I just thought there might be some recommendations on what that airstream should sound like?

Well, because sound quality can be ruled out, the only things left are in tune and rhythmically sound.
