Oh, how I'd like to be able to march now! I can only still barely walk, and that only with a cane as would make playing simultaneously a bit difficult.

Same here, actually. And I'm sure there are many of us here also who could hold our own in a "who worked harder/who was poorer" contest, too. ;-)

If you've already earned most of the money yourself why does the link show a fundraising goal of $3600?

Perhaps you'd have more success if you say "I've raised $2800 towards my $3600 goal so I'm trying to raise the rest by xx/xx/xxxx"

Slackers don't pass auditions with any DCI corps.

I find this to be a really interesting thread. I wondered where it was going to go - but was not surprised.

There are threads that I wait to see if more info is coming, others where I provoke more info. In this thread it was worth the wait.

I think that it is a good thing to ask. I see no harm and you can test the waters pretty easily. I think that Ken learned a bunch of stuff. Some of it is not necessarily what he "wanted" to hear, but in retrospect are thankful for because the responses are very open and honest. A couple of things posted over time probably would have increased the chances from the beginning:

"This fee is especially difficult to pay while being an international student at a private college (limited job opportunities and federal aid). This is why I am asking for your help. I have already raised $2800, so any amount of contribution would be greatly appreciated to help me reach the final goal.

In any case, my reservations about DCI have NOTHING to do with that type of playing. It has more to do with some of the instructors that do not have the individual players in focus, rather their own egos. In addition, I see the struggle for many players that want to balance DCI with concert band projects. The posting here shows the strain involved.

In any case, I am sure that it is a worthy cause.

HhsTrumpet, I'll think you'll find most of us recall our marching band experiences with pleasure, and have nothing against drum corps or marching band, but those of us who admire a "complete package" just don't get excited about drum corp specialists.

I think it will be a great experience for you, and I wish you luck with your funding!

I do like the American DCI style Marching Bands - entertaining.
No money to give you, but good luck. You may be lucky to find some rich sponsor who has money left after Christmas.

That's interesting. Maybe a poll is in order. (rolls eyes) I hated it, did everything I could to gt out of it. And as a (harrumph) musician (and budding band director), I resented having to give over half of the school year to this pursuit. (Which I considered marginally musical and chop busting to boot.) Total waste of good rehearsal and concert performance time.
