Well im on holidays now so i dont go to music lessons so bare with me.

Anyway my question is. I look at some of the notes i have to play and some of them have a "b" or "#" in front of them. What do they mean? I know how to play them, but i dont know what they are called eg: #G or bC

    # is sharp (i.e. a half step higher), b is flat (i.e. a half step lower)

so per your examples, G sharp and C flat. However, no one says C flat because it's just B.
