    Hello peoples!!
I am currently the first chair trumpet in my high school's band as a freshman, how do I continue to improve my skills (not necessarily maintain my current chair.) Also, how should I treat the upperclassmen that are lower than me without being rude and egotistical? Thank you!

How do I not sound like a showoff when I am around them or playing? Especially when one the band director often mentions that I am a freshman.

I was in the exact same position as you.

Really, just play to the best of your ability all the time.

As far as improvement find a GOOD and competent teacher who is teaching the style you want to play.

Don't get drawn into arguments by older players who will try to bait you into getting mad.

Just play, enjoy what you're doing and be friendly to everyone.

Thank you! I will try to not get into arguments. So far, the upperclassmen have been respectful. However, jealously and animosity may grow.

You may not be able to not sound like a showoff, if you are that much better than the others.

Perhaps you can talk to the director and tell him, it is causing problems for him to keep reminding the others that you are a freshman.

Yes, jealousy and animosity ARE going to happen, the senors will sooner or later resent a freshman GIRL holding that seat.

Just be yourself, be friendly and enjoy playing.

I just might have to try that if it becomes necessary.

One of the members here, a girl, in her freshman year at the University of Michigan, played 2nd chair.

    She turned out okay.

One of the other freshman and my band and I do many extra curricular band activities together, like jazz band and brass ensemble. How do treat this situation without bragging?
