Resentment is free and respect has to be earned! Hang in there and be the best! If all else fails, punch 'em in the chops and tell them to stop being little b*****s

Haha! That would probably lead to the opposite of respect, I would just be considered the freshman with the violent temper that punched an upperclassman in the mouth...

One more thing, I got a Bach Stradivarius for Christmas... That probably doesn't help with the situation!

I am not sure that you are in the right forum. Normally TMers don't compare Bach trumpets by silver or brass, rather with the model number, leadpipe number, bore size and vintage.......... Then comes the highest note that we can hit.

What I meant is that students in my band seem to see this as an item of envy, the silver as somewhat of a status symbol. I don't necessary compare my trumpet versus my other trumpets on silver versus brass.

I never did have any envy issues in High School with my Sears Catalog Trumpet....but sat first chair anyway!

My first trumpet that I had from 5th to 8th grade didn't cause envy either. For some reason a Jupiter student trumpet with a reputation of trapping large amounts of spit and a horrendous mouthpiece doesn't really create much envy!

I envied the silverplate horns! Most of the kids I went to HS with came from money and a new silver Bach was what they had, a few of them were even Strad's. Nobody envied my beat to hell King. Finally got my silver horn at the end of sophomore year and nothing changed but I felt my silver Holton put me in the "cool" bracket. Truth is I was and still am just a band geek. Now I prefer raw brass
