hmmm cornet?

    Not a penny. In fact it costs me money. Petrol to the jobs etc. and when I was a member of brass band , I paid weekly subs too.

    As Andy mentioned, the top bands get expenses and top of the range instruments. Plus overseas tours etc. all paid for. I know a guy that plays for Black Dyke and he drives 200 miles EACH way twice a week to rehearse. Plus extras for sectionals and contests etc. He's a Maths teacher by day. That is the sort of dedication required to play with the big boys.

    What gets me a little is when small bands try to act like the big boys (I'm in no way accusing my band of that) but there's an old gaurd that don't like anything but "proper banding" which basically means if you don't eat, sleep, drink, breed with etc then your not a proper bander.

    Not the instrument the band erm this gets worse shuting up now sir and handing to starboard lookout Goldstien chattin, left trigger down a bit and the floggle toggle gear is now stuck and He's Fallen in der Water (lets see if the "Yanks" get that one Rapier)

    This whole British Banding thing sounds a bit creepy and 'good 'ol boyish' to me ....
