Now I know that anything done to a horn outside (or inside in some cases..) the factory will change some playing characteristics, some quite drastically, others unnoticeable. In the future, I plan to get my Benge 3x+ gold trimmed and get custom stone inlays to fit make it my own, if you will. I was just curious what the best way to go about this would be, and the big question, how much money would it cost. I worry that since Benge didnt make gold trimmed valve caps and what not that they would have to be gold plated. I am worried that they will not screw in correctly if plated over with some home plating kit so, is there anybody that has the expertise to do this for a reasonable price?

    Thank you,

    Dviglis

The plating won't change the sound. Prepping the horn for plating will. If you have the right technician, the horn will probably get better. I like gold.....

Gold is expensive. I don't know if reasonable price will ever play in to it.

Stone inlays can make a difference in the feel of the horn.

I am actually also a rock and mineral collector as well so I hope I can actually use some stones from my collection and save some money on the lapidary inlays.
