If you have resorted to quoting KT... You have entered The Dante Inferno... forget the mute.
If you can’t make your mute change fast enough throw your bell deep into the stand and play the line, it will sound like a bucket mute and no one will know the difference (or care) including the director…..
Buy a trumpet with a built in switch that can turn on mute mode and open mode. Boom.
Are you talking about the Morrison Digital Trumpet?
I've shaved/broken a few corks in college using a Manhasset mute holder. Too, there is sound picked up by the audio. Still, you're picking them up by the base and roll/twist them into your instrument so I can't discern the gaff of trouble others have.
I make DIY mute holders out 37 cents clamps from Home Depot and 1/3 of a wire hanger bent into something between a P and J in shape. I have 3 or 4 in each case, they look like junk, they work great, nobody steals them and if I lose one, they are easy to replace.

Just use an Echo cornet or trumpet...
What if the trumpets are seated behind bassoons or to their left?
What if it's a band?!
So many mute difficulties!
