    Hi everyone.

I played all the way through college (mostly lead in my college jazz band plus some small combos) then quit when I joined the real world. That was 15 years ago, but I'm back now. I wish I'd never stopped.

Anyway, I bought 2 horns in the last month and am starting to get my chops back. I'm shocked at how bad my range and endurance in particular are, but I can feel myself improving very slowly. I'll be joining a local community band in a few weeks and hope to eventually work back into jazz shape.

Happy to be here, and any advice is greatly appreciated!

Brandon - Welcome to the returning players club. We have a large contingent here and we make our voices heard! That's because most of us can't make our trumpets heard since we have been relegated to the basement, tool shed (soundproofed, of course), or a closet full of clothes. But we all nurture the dream (some would say fantasy) that we can emerge into the real world of polite company and, maybe, bring our trumpet out with us.

Also, two trumpets already. That's a sure sign that you have caught the 'N+1 virus'. The main symptom is the inability to keep ones hands off of shiny brass things - or even ones that aren't so shiny. I started with just one a few months ago. Now the family is talking intervention.

But, we look forward to hearing how things are going for you. Let us know when you join the band and how it is working out. What models of trumpets do you have and how do you like them?

    Good luck.

    Hi Brandon,
Welcome to TM, only 15 yrs away. That's a short break compared to some of these TM'ers here.

2 horns already, and looking to play Jazz, you will fit right in here.
