It seems I have hit a plateau in the climb to better playing. I have been studying with a professional for the last 4 months. He has me working on flexibility, tonguing and breathing exercises from the Schlossberg book and Arbans.

Although he says he is happy with what he hears, I certainly am not. I have been working on the same Arban's breathing exercise for about a month, and I am making very little headway. It is starting to become very frustrating.

At times like this, what have you done to master the exercise (or passage, or movement, etc. etc.)?

    For the record:

    I am 47.
I "cameback" 4 years ago after 20-years off.
I have had a couple of teachers before this, but the lessons were of lesson than stellar quality. Although I am VERY pleased with my current teacher.
