I have some sessions coming up soon and I need a lead trumpet player from Europe, preferably Germany or Northern Europe.

I need a pro with lots of Pop and BigBand/Salsa section recording experience.

The sound I'm looking for is Joey Pero/Arturo Sandoval. Extended high range, big sound, great control and stamina. They must also have great control in the low and mid register.

    Any recommendations?

    Many thanks
    Paul

    Ha! :-)

That was plan A. Unfortunately, the sessions may be split over a few weeks and there isn't enough budget to keep flying them back and forth to Germany or to keep them in a hotel for several weeks doing nothing.

I already know about the following guys, but I need more options in case our schedules don't match:
    Andy Harderer
    Andrea Tofanelli
    Derek Watkins
    Jan Oosthof
Chuck Findley (Is he living in Germany?)

Paul - if you're in Germany, haven't you looked at the rosters of the radio orchestra big bands, as well as the Metropole Orchestra? A little south, the Upper Austria Jazz Orchestra?

Ron Mesa is currently in France ... pretty certain he fits the bill ... and if he isn't available he probably knows some cats who are.
PM me if you are interested

Thanks, everyone. Some great suggestions here. Please keep them coming.

@ kehaulani - We've used some amazing European Radio band players in the past and they've been perfect for those sessions. Those guys are extremely capable, versatile and professional, but the sound we're looking for this time is a bit more specialised. I don't think that everyone can do an impression of Sandoval and keep it up over several demanding sessions, that's why I came here for more informed recommendations.

@ coolerdave - Many thanks. PM sent.

Out of interest - Is Arturo Sandoval's high range sound all about embouchure and breathing? How much of it is down to the horn and mouthpiece?
