It is an F trumpet. Have a friend playing with the Bamberger Symphoniker, and they had a clinic with Friedamann Immer. His chops don't change and the vent holes are there to focus some of the tones. Friedamann Immer is a trumpet god. Vulgani bow to the slightest mention of his name, and we don't do that hardly ever.

2nd Brandenburg is in F, Trumpet in F, there are several holes in the tubing to assist with intonation of several partials, covered or opened with fingers as required.

    Regards, Stuart.
