Back in the 90s I remember alot of people getting their trumpet frozen. Places like Osmuns and the Brass Bow would do it... maybe they still do? There would be lot's of talk about it on the internet and I remember someone on TPIN did a big test.

Has this since been proven to be a vodoo scam?

It worked for Dr. Evil and Austin Powers! Not so good on cats, as I remember...

My repair teacher had his horn done, as well as a number of other things to experiment with and he is convinced it is incredibly effective.
He says he has video with before and after's of the horn being played. He was also skeptical.

What does the video show or prove? I notice alot less talk about freezing trumpets these days.

I always thought it was some form of snake oil, so even though I had Wayne do a lot of my repairs when I was at DePaul, I never had that done.

The difference in playing characteristics between the horn prior to freezing and after.
Whether it is good or bad is up to the player.
To be effective the horn has to be totally aligned and stress free before freezing.

It worked on Han Solo years ago.

He even got better after the freezing.

The 2nd player in our band had his Connstellation done. He said he never noticed any difference.

Ask those who have played their horns outside on freezy days.

Do they hear any difference when they and their frozen instruments return to warm room temperature?

    Best wishes,

    Lloyd

I thought the whole point was that the procedure would eliminate stress. You are saying the horn has to be stress free first?
