Is it ever to late to change focus?

    Too bad you didn't mention your town in Washington! Manny's advice is good, and as a former rural Washington resident I can tell you that there are some monster players and teachers out there, and that the local colleges and universities have grabbed most of them already. For someone close to home, call or mail your local Musician's Union (American Federation of Musicians),either Local 105 in Spokane or 76 in Seattle, and ask for their list of teachers and start networking. At the same time, check to see if there is a community orchestra near you. Even string players have some good musical ideas, even if their idea of mezzo forte is different from ours!

    You are getting stellar practical advice from real heavy hitters on the matter. I would add just one more thought.

    It is NEVER too late to start learning anything! How we learn and how fast we learn may change as one gets more seasoning, but it is NEVER too late! Go for it!

    Be positive and expect good in your quest to tackle a new facet of trumpet playing.
