I've been shopping for a trumpet online that balances my tiny budget with good quality and reasonably good shape. (Found one, now.) Since I am not somewhere where I have a variety of trumpets to actually try out, I've been relying on online reviews, especially on this forum and Trumpet Herald.

The more you read, the crazier it gets. This is what I've learned...

Don't buy a student horn, you can get a vintage pro for the same price!

A vintage pro horn is not the same as a modern pro horn: it's the equivalent of a modern student horn.

The (any beginner model) TrumpetA is awesome! I can't believe it's a student horn! I would take it out to play on gigs!

The TrumpetA is the awesome, gig-worthy starter trumpet. The TrumpetB student model is a step better than that. The Trumpet C is the next step up, the intermediate model. The Trumpet D is even better yet!

    Don't buy Trumpet D because it's just a dressed-up student horn.

    AAAAAACK! Seriously, people...

I did look at Trumpet E, but it only fit in my budget when it had broken welds, worn-out valves, red rot, and/or lots of those dents 'that don't effect the tone at all.'

That's because it's the player not the horn (regardless of condition)!:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:
