    Heart of Dixie
A giant in the trumpet and brass band scene passed away today. James Watson was a past director of the Black Dyke Band, Head of Brass at the Royal Academy of Music, principal trumpet with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Opera House, London Sinfonietta, led the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, and the list goes on...

I was privileged to meet Mr. Watson about 7 years ago, have our brass band instructed and conducted by him, and accompany him and Phil Smith on a couple pieces. I learned a lot in just that one day with him at the Ellsworth Smith ITG solo competition in Birmingham. He will be missed.
