That was the first thing my trumpet teacher changed. He switched me to anchor tonguing right away; and it was two weeks before a performance. Yikes! He has always been of the philosophy to focus on music and the mechanics take care of themselves. The transition was not so bad. It was the best decision to knuckle-down and relearn. Striking the pallet behind the top teeth with the tip of my tongue became progressively more difficult above the stave and really sluggish as the pressures increased. I would recommend anchor tonguing very highly; I have so much greater control.
