Any one got any ideas of how to stop the stem falling out of a Jo-Ral bubble mute?
Had this issue: I returned the mute to the seller (Thomann, Germany). They changed it after having thoroughly checked the new one. Before, even with a thick grease, the stem was falling down all the time.
Yes they are a bit on the loose side. I switched the stem for another from an old Harmon mute and it fitted better. If you don't have any old extending tubes around, you can A) put a strip of masking tape along the length of the tube and it will firm things up but you will need to change the tape on a regular basis - no big deal. B) A more permanent solution is to put the extending tube into the mute and from the large hole end of the mute, rotate the jaws from a pair of needle nose pliers around the inside of the mute where the tube goes in, to pinch it tighter, this will work for a bit longer.
