Please forgive is this is the wrong thread. We're cleaning out the closet and found my daughters Silver Flair 2055T. Based on the serial (5 575490) it's the 1996-2000 model. It has some minor dings as she played this in middle school. How does one go about valuing used horns?

My guess is around 800 to 900..

But it is the price the market will pay, and the best way to check the value is to just check EBay. See what others are selling for, or maybe drop into your local music store and see what deal they can do for you. Cash in hand for a treasure you had forgotten about, is always a boost.

Sometimes shops will be happy to sell on consignment.
Good luck, and I hope your daughter does not come around later on, to take it up again. But I suppose there comes a time to clean those closets.

Be aware if you take it to a music store and offer to have them buy it, they will offer you next to nothing. I have seen them buy Bach Strads for $75. I'm not trying to knock them as they are in the business of buying very low and then selling higher than eBay prices. You will be much much better off selling it yourself- or on consignment.

The 2055t is a fairly good horn, but not valued anywhere near the 1055. Think the company changed hands - totally different quality. I would price the horn in the $300-600 range.

You might also let the local band director know. Chances are your price will be below the usual "instrument showing" that occurs at most schools for new kids in band. Prices are high. Typically their is an agreement between the store and band director where the band get a few freebies, a weekly or biweekly visit from the store to make any simple repairs. In turn the store gets a captivated audience needing to buy horns with no competition present. Your horn would be great for a struggling family with a kid who needs a horn.

Just my thoughts. Best of luck.

2055T is the remake of the 1055 pro horn---- both are good horns, but the 1055 (original is definitely the better horn) ------ 2055T, is a good horn (intermediate level horn)
