For those of you near Chicago/Ravinia:

A new (2013) sequel to Stravinsky's "L'histoire du soldat" is to be played at Ravinia on Tuesday, August 5, featuring players from the Chicago Symphony (John Hagstrom on trumpet) and the storytelling talents of Hershey Felder. The sequel is entitled "The Devil's Tale".

It initially borrows from Stravinsky's final percussion solo, and upon the final drum stroke, Joseph wakes up in Vegas, and the whole previous fiddle saga becomes all just a dream, and takes off from there. The music and story are completely created by Jim Stephenson, but revisits rivalries with the Sam, the devil, and casts showgirl Hannah as Joseph's girlfriend. (www.stephensonmusic.com)

They will be performing both the Stravinsky and the Stephenson, back-to-back in this very unique concert. The composer will be present.

Mr. Hagstrom plays cornet. The trumpet would be too angelic for the devils tale.
