I know what I read. It takes more than pyridoxal phosphate to make VB happy I am betting.

I weighed a few horns a couple of months ago:
Elkhart Bach Strad: 2 lb 6.0 oz
Elkhart Bach Strad Lightweight 2 lb 3.5 oz
    Yamaha 2335 2 lb 7.0 oz
Martin Committee 2 lb 3.0 oz
    Jaeger-Diamond 2 lb 4.5 oz

Your 2.44 lb is 2 lb 7.0 oz - the same as the Yamaha 2335

Keeping things in perspective, a liter of beer weighs about 2.2 pounds.

Maybe Ivan can weigh in (oh my, a pun already) this as I see he has listed some horns weights. I think the original poster is hunting a horn that is lightweight (total weight) compared to other horns. However, when I hear the term lightweight I think of something with a lightweight bell like a Bach 72 star - not necessarily a horn where the total weight would be less (though obviously a lightweight bell would reduce overall weight somewhat).

It would be interesting to know if the rest of a Bach star is pretty much the standard weight leadpipe, valve block, slides etc., with the bell just lightweight. And for that matter, do they make some horns where the valve block, leadpipe etc. would be lighter and the bell more standard weight? I know I have always thought of my Olds Super (60s) has a more heavy weight horn - my Olds Special (tricolor end) more lightweight.
