Guys I need your advice on this one. Without telling you what I told a student of mine who is into the Gothic Style with all the facial piercings, I want to know what you all think about a student who has their lower lip pierced. The ring is placed to the right of the lip a few centimeters away from the corner. The ring goes under and through the area a few centimeters below lip, which of course is definitely part of the embouchure. Let me know how would you advise this student. What would you say?

I would advise the student to consider taking up a different instrument, maybe guitar or piano or violin. Something that doesn't require embouchure.

Let him find out! it is going through the muscle so it's going to effect his embouchure.

They might be able to "get away with it", but if the student is serious about being a good player why take the chance?

There's enough difficulty and competition involved with trumpet playing to begin with, so introducing something that could really hurt the major component of sound production seems silly.

Air compression might be a problem.

Why did the Goth cross the road? He was stapled to a chicken.

Gothic style is not for trumpeters... if he doesn't realise this , maybe somebody else should tell him that he is stupid ...
