A friend of mine has a son who is playing trumpet, and going into the 8th grade.

His middle school is cutting their Band Program. He however, wants to coninue playing. So, dad wants to pay for him to have private lessons until he get to high school where the music program starts again.

Do any of you guys know a solid player/teacher that would be willing to take on a "young" student?

Look up Kay Fairchild through the Atlanta Trumpet Ensemble website. She's a fairly well known Atlanta teacher who takes young students - there are even a few middle schoolers in her trumpet ensemble, but that's by invitation only. I think she's a very good teacher and she has some very successful students.

Oh, and tell her I said hi!

Give J.B. Scott, trumpet prof at UNF in Jacksonville a call. If he can't do it he'll probably know someone who can, maybe a grad student or local pro. You have a good symphony in town as well. Call the JSO office for a referral to one of their trumpet players.

Kay Fairchild is awesome, but she's also really busy. BUT she knows everything and everybody there is to know in the trumpet world of Atlanta, so even if she doesn't have any openings, I would suggest contacting her. Any of the Atlanta Symphony trumpeters are awesome, but fairly expensive. Paul Poovey is great. The list goes on and on... but I would totally recommend contacting Kay first, she can help you find the right teacher. I personally studied with her and Joe Walthall of the Atlanta Symphony when I was in high school. They're both great. PM me if you would like her contact info.

Paul was my instructor until I had some dental work done that set me back. I highly reccommend Paul Poovey. He is excellent!

Ive taught young students for over 30 years. All they need is a web cam.
