I'm trying to find some new trumpeters to listen to. I love Miles, Chet, Freddie, and all the rest of the usual suspects from the past. But I've got all those albums now, and I'm looking for something new.

My favorite recent trumpet CD is "Skala" by Mathias Eick, a jazz trumpeter from Norway. If you haven't heard it, I highly recommend it.

    Any suggestions?

I don't know if you count him from the past, but Tom Harrell deserves some heavy listening.

Mnozil Brass, Adam Rapa, Roy Hargrove, Art Farmer, Scotty Barnhart, Till Bronner, Fabrizio Bosso... Those are the first people that come to my head right now. All among my favorites...

Mathias Eick - The Door (better than Skala IMO)
John Swana - Tug of War (is a good start)
Dave Douglas - A Thousand Evenings
    Nicholas Payton - Paytons Place
Jerry Gonzalez - Y El Comando De La Clave
Terence Blanchard - Chano Y Dizzy <- This one is AWESOME!

I love The Door, just love Skala a little better ;). I've also got several other CDs he recorded with Iro Haarla, Jacob Young and Manu Katche. They are all good, but I like his solo work best.
