We have our concert this evening with Northern Symphonic Winds. One of the pieces is Rhapsody for Horn and Winds by Jan van der Roost. (Same guy composed Puszta). Man, what a piece. The horn player is just phenomenal, as well. The piece has aleatoric elements (timed sections, noodling, clusters) yet also has some more traditional things as well. The rest is good, too, but this one really stands out for me. Other pieces: Mennin Canzona, Adam Gorb's Awayday, Ticheli's 2 Cajun Folk Songs, Eric Whitacre's October, and Copeland's Outdoor Overture. It's gonna be a good gig.

    Yee HAW!
Ditto here, Glen. 'tis the night for another premiere (the best kind of concert for an amateur, imo).

    Music includes:
    O Canada (Lavalee, arr: Cable)
    Alberta Bound (Lightfoot, arr: Cable)
McIntyre Ranch Country (streaming audio of this piece at (Cable)
    RCMP March (O'Neil, arr: Cable)
Good Medicine (the premiere piece, Cable) in 4 movements:
    --Bronc to Breakfast
    --The Tie Rope
    --Waiting for a Chinook
    --Ask the Horse
Calgary Round-up (Wilf Carter, arr: Cable)
    Snake Fence Country (Cable)
Four Strong Winds (Ian Tyson, arr: Cable)
    The Cowboys (Williams, arr: Curnow)
    They Went Thataway (arr: Jennings)

Anybody detect a(nother) western theme here? :D

So who is this guy, Cable?
