I have an old TR-300 that is just sitting around doing nothing. The finish is in fair to poor shape, laq. not silver). What are the 'better' shops in the U.S. that can rebuild this type horn into a heavily-braced version?

Is this worth it or should I just look for something already built?

I wouldn't wast my money modifying a student horn. IMO that's kinda like putting lipstick on a pig ;)

one week till the election... fingers crossed. I won't go any more into politics. (donning my flameproof gear).

even still, can you (or anyone) refer a decent yet reasonably priced shop in the u.s.? his tr300 may not be a cadillac, but i'm sure everyone knows the meaning of sentimental value. i'm not trying to be blunt here, but i'm kind of in the same boat. i'm currently looking to get my olds refurbished... got one price quote of at least 450, thought that was kind of steep...

For $450 you can buy a good vintage pro horn. I know as I have bought many!

(and even have a few horns still for sale that would blow the socks off the Bach).

O...M...G... "Lipstick on a pig", I'm soooo using that one!

I'd probably say that it might be worth modding this horn if you were to do it yourself for the experience, however, it might be more than the horn's worth to have it professionally done. Maybe find a second-hand pro horn and have it kitted out?

If I had time, I would do your horn providing you paid for shipping and materials, but I don't know if I am able to because I am currently getting started working on an Olds Ambassador and am busy with saxophone repairs as well.
