Arrrg, that post made me very angry!!! Every production horn I have owned I have had to modify in some small way to be able to play a low F, and that is just wrong. On my old bach Bb I had to buy a longer rod. On my yamaha C I had to have the stop screw assembly removed and reset farther down the slide.
The new yamaha chicago is the first horn to my knowledge where one can play a low F (with the stop still engaged) out of the box. and it only took until 2005. rant over.

    ML,

Just heard a friend’s CD of the MO’s Alpine Symphony with Edo de Waart. Simply awesome.

    Manny,

I don't think much has changed. The food is incredibly greasy, and the people are colorful. My milkshake was good, but my friend couldn't finish her omlette because it was so greasy. Milkshake: B+, Food: C-/D+, People watching: A (A+ late at night).

Speaking of Daphnis, of course I enjoyed the playing, but also, great job getting on and off stage! Right after the last offstage call, I saw a shadowy figure run across the back of the stage, quickly sit down and nail the next lick just in time. Very slick. I wonder if the day will come when the final round of an audition will include some sort of timed race where the candidates run off and on stage playing excerpts. (Manny, you were impressive, but in that case I think my money would be on Matt Sonneborn, prinicpal in Naples, Fl, who just ran the Boston Marathon last year). Am I getting off topic too much? :dontknow:
