Well, I have played my share of mouthpieces I would not wish to see duplicated. So upon that basis I agree with you.

Boiling water will also pull tarnish out of the silver.

I have an autoclave for sterilizing mouthpieces. It is important to clean all the dirt out first. I would imagine that if it were your own personal mouthpieces, all you would need to do is boil them for 15-20 minutes.

Outside of purchasing Sterisol, one can simply use warm water and dish detergent. As a chemical specialist in the Army, it is a wonder how easy it is to de-contaminate people and equipment with those two simple resources.

I guess I'll have to donate my lungs to science after my demise for confirmation, but in addition to residual tobacco tars (from a prior cigarette habit) trace findings of asbestos and silver have been already found in pulmonary biopsy clogging my alveoli, and I know the source of such silver was in an industrial setting of black and white photo processing where my face was just an inch or so from the nitrogen agitated developer as I used a magnifying loupe to assess the development of the negative, vis some silver halide was airborne and entered my lungs.

While asbestos is naturally occurring and many farmers in some areas encounter such just plowing their fields when they are not shielded in air conditioned tractor enclosures, few mines are encapsulated. My exposure was in Federal buildings undergoing remedial renovation with removal from steam pipes, steel sound proofing, and tile flooring. You just wouldn't believe the miles of steam pipes under the ground in Washington DC that at times I was assigned to walk alongside. Now I know why I then regained my USAF 32" waist, those steam pipe tunnels were a sauna.

Touch a mpc or put it to your lips and the spec of sterility is lost!
