I've noticed when playing a long hit from a song and I start to get tired mucus will build up from my nose and in my mouth and I will have to stop playing to either swallow it or spit it out. What am I doing wrong?

The only possible relation is that a lot of breathing through the nose can dry them out (depending on the humidity on that day) causing a natural reaction from the body to protect the tissue.

Hydration is a very important part of any physical activity. If anything is "excessive", then only a doctor should help.

If you are starting to girgle, point the horn down for a moment while you play. Then drain the spit valve during a rest.
