    I have been using Harmony Assistant. I'm pretty sure it's free and you can choose to notate from guitar, drum, to trumpet and everything in between! If you google "Harmony Assistant" it should be the first link!

    Save up some money and get the REAL thing. Sibelius is the only way to go.

    I use NoteWorthy Composer - available on-line at a reasonable price - works pretty well too. I find it easier to use than Finale.

    Finale has several increments between Notepad and the full pro edition. Check their website, you'll probably find something that will work in your budget.

    I don't know about Vista compatability - I use XP. :-?
