My 12 yr old kid wants to go try for the NTC in 2010. There's nothing posted on their website for how to apply. He's considered a bit of a prodigy locally (nothing like that amazing 10 yr old girl who won last year, though). He's never been given a concerto to learn. Most recently, he's been playing Carnival of Venice from Arban's and the Flor Peeters sonata, third movement. He has a good teacher locally to work with. Any recommendations of an appropriate trumpet concerto for him to prepare? The kid is dogged, practices hard, self-motivated. Has a very big sound, lately making big gains in double and triple tonguing. Also, any advice on the application process would be welcome.
