Hello all, I won a Getzen Capri Flugelhorn on ebay. I got it working well machincally, now I need to polich the silver up and remove some tarnish and looks like some old polish. I am in the DC area and would like to shine it up myself or if there is a good shop in the area I may not mine.

Any suggestion on how to get some shine back?

You could possibly save yourself a couple bucks by buying MAAS polish. Or anything else that removes tarnish and polishes.

By the way welcome to TM!

Amen to buying polish. I personally use Hagerty's Silversmiths Polish. It works great.

From what I understand even a mild polish will wind up removing some of the finish.

Do a search on baking soda and aluminum foil cleaning. Works GREAT on silver horns and doesn't hurt the finish...

a sink full of very hot salt water and a big piece of aluminum foil. Add the trumpet and in about 20 minutes, everything is shiny, WITHOUT removing material. The oxide from the silver, moves to the aluminum foil! Couldn't be easier, or CLEANER.
