Newer Students and Mouthpieces

    I found the Bach 6C to have a more comfortable rim than the 7C. Schilke compared his #12 to a Bach 6C.

    If we are building good habits, the Bach 7C mouthpiece doesn't bite at all. If excessive pressure is our best friend, a flatter mouthpiece may be more comfortable, but the musical result is the same................

    Overdose on longtones and lipslurs. That is the fastest cure for what ails you!

    Rowuk, the two "modern", meaning within the last 7 or 8 years, Bach 7C mouthpieces do have a very nasty narrow rim with a very sharp bite. The Mt. Vernon 7C I have has a much easier on the chops rim.
    Pressure is a bad thing, but the bite on these newer 7C is not comfortable as it once was. This is coming from someone who once used a Schilke 8A4 with a rather sharp bite. That wasn't bad at all.
