Ok first I am unemployed right now so my time is free and I have a lot of skill's. I will list them briefly. I aprenticed in Germany in the late 1980's to be an Automotice Technician so I am skilled with my hands I can stretch, shape, shrink metal, I can lead and silver solder. I have a 4 year degree in Business Managment and a minor in Marketing. I also work on my own firearm's and electronics doing a fair amount of work myself. Now what I want to do. I want to get instruments either donated to me from locals that would otherwise donate to Ebay via GoodWill and Salvation Army. I want to repair these instruments to playable condition for students that can not afford an instrument but want to be in band! I have already started looking on ebay for basket case trumpet's that need a bell or have a cracked lead pipe of low compression on the valves etc....... I can not afford to start with great instruments and I can always stripp the finish and hand polish the brass if I need too. So I have been looking for a source of OEM defective trumpet part's so lead pipes, bells, tunning slides that are too dinged or dented from the OEM to let leave the factory so they are removed. Since this is comeing out of my pocket I am wanting to keep it as cheap as possable. I am currently liveing off $800 a month so times are tough! If not for ebay my oldest boy would not be in band right now. So I can learn any skill I need to work brass that is not a problem especialy if I can find a decent book on it! I need contacts for part's if anyone has them!!! I am sure that buy donating them to me they can write them off. Infact instead of just trashing them and writeing them off they can know they are doing a good deed. I got started at this just recently. A girl that I would love to make part of my family is really neglected. She has no Dad and her Mom does not have anything to do with her if not for her older sister she would be running wild. She is smart but act's out too much. She is a natural born performer. She wanted to be in band and she just got her Trombone some 6 weeks into band. I think a local church is picking up the tab. I was bidding on trombones up until today on ebay since I wanted her to have one. Any ways I thought to myself how important it was for me to be in band and all the great memories and how much trouble it probably kept me out of. I want to do something to help. Since all I have is my time and my skill with my hands I am trying to save the world one trumpet, baritone or tuba at a time!!!LOL I live in Rural America in the country and their are none of these "save the music" programs like you see in New York, Chicago and LA. I have to do all the work myself to keep the cost done since I do not plan on chargeing for any of these instrument's. I am tired of seeing so much stuff that should be going to the needy on Ebay! I have a friend that got a Bach Strad that was bare copper and had a few dings. He got it at a Salvation Army. He tried to give it to me and I said to him do you realise how much this is worth? I should have kept my mouth shut. He ended up polishing the bare raw brass with automotive cleaning paste wax until it was preety shinny and it sold for $2000 on ebay. It was one of the Mont Vernon Strad's. I know should have kept my mouth shut!!!LOL At the time my son was playing a Gemeunhardt Silver flute so I was not in the market for a trumpet. That trumpet should have gone to a needy kid put instead it was sold on Ebay to make a profit to someone that probably have more trumpet's in their home then they can use at any one time! I am not some communist socialist but it really bothered me and touched my heart to see that little girl show up day after day to band class with no trombone for 6 weeks!!! I found out today after church she had finaly gotten one. SO if anyone can help me out with contact's or other's that do this type of thing I would really apreciate it. I just decided last night to see if I could make a go out this. I was up to 5 AM with insomnia just thinking about giveing this a try. I figure worst case I fall flat on my face. Best case I do the heavy lifting then people will join in and we will have a program that can serve not only my local area but the entire state!Obviously if anyone on here had a kid in their area that needed something and their family was dirt poor I am sure once we are up and running we could send stuff to other states as well. I know that their are addicits and basements full of instruments that are dieing to be returned to the hands of a musician or a musician in training since no instrument want's to spend it life rotting on a shelf. Thanks for listening to me rant!
