Oldest Professional Trumpet Player

    The great Doc Cheatham played BIG until he was 92. And then he died. That's how I want to go.

    A google search suggests he is 89 years old - but I can't confirm that.

    I did see Gil Askey play earlier in the year and I think he is 87.

    Former first-call LA player Ollie Mitchell is well and active (and in relative "retirement") on the Big Island of Hawaii at the age of 85.

    I heard the Honolulu Big Band play at the Ilikai Hotel a few years ago, and they were very good. Can't seem to find them now, though. Mitchell picked a great place for retirement...Hawaii is our favorite vacation place, plus I was based there from 1990-1994.

    I too saw him a few months back (he might not be as he was in his younger days .........But he sure does have the licks and the entertaining down to a tee A great bee-bop muso)

    So there's hope for me still yet.:lol:
