I just picked up the Olds Ambassador Cornet and it came with a #3 mouthpiece. My Olds trumpet also came with an Olds #3. My range with the Olds trumpet MP is quite higher than when using the Cornet MP on the cornet. The cornet MP seems similar to the trumpet Bach 5C.
    Are Olds #3's that different?

Are you sure that your trumpet mouthpiece is not a 3C? The cornet #3 is more of funnel shaped cup which may make for you the high register harder to reach.

My Olds 3 mouthpiece that came with my Olds Super back in 1969 when I bought it new was a funnel shape, just like their cornet mouthpieces. For the longest time, their numbering system and mouthpiece design was nothing like Bach's so trying to compare the two is futile. At the end of the company's life, they may have switched their mouthpiece design like everybody else did (except Yamaha) to match Bach's so the age of the mouthpiece would enter into any such discussion.
