The long answer is nope.
Not the lead trumpet, but the picc in a jazz setting (with the transcribed solo for those so inclined....)
Yes, certainly; but that piece is in a way a parody of a Baroque fugue, where any trumpet player would choose a picc...
The point is, in the hands of someone who understands the genre, a picc can also work for jazz. I could picture the second trumpet player taking a killer chorus on a picc.
It's been done. Lew Soloff and James Morrison come to mind.
