ooops no, I meant a C trumpet ! sorry
We tried this "fix" once when I was in college marching band. The San Francisco Youth Symphony called us and asked us to punch up the finale of an upcoming performance by marching in and playing with the orchestra on "Stars and Stripes Forever". We had all played this march many times, so "No problem!" we thought. However, they didn't bother telling us that they were playing the piece a half-step lower than Sousa's original (which is a better key for strings).
We all freaked out when we got the music at the last minute. Finally, the trumpet section leader just told us to pull our tuning slides out all the way and play it as we had memorized.
