Practice Mutes

    something that works is playing into a closet of clothes. you actually put the bell of your horn into the clothes and it muffles the sound without the back pressure. 2nd chair told me about this 20 yr. ago and I went and bought a silent brass instead [played the s.b. maybe twice and used the closet until I got a house]. I need to listen to my friends more. Dave

    I have the denis wick adjustable cup mute for the rare occaisions when I need to be quiet while I practice. I just put it in, and close the cup down on the bell. Its fairly quiet then. Ive been able to get away practicing in hotel rooms, no problem that way actually.
