I quit band recently, and I need a good and effective way of warming up and practicing to keep up my practicing. I've used some of my books from last year, but I want to keep improving; not stay mediocre. Does anyone know some effective ways for a non-band student to *independently* grow as a musician.

To the OP: Why did you quit band? I'm just curious.

Certainly the posture you present in your avatar is not condusive to effective practice or performance. Get a music stand, sit in a straight backed chair or stand when you practice or perform.

Maybe find another outlet for performing?

My picture is me posing. I most certainly do not play that way.

Also, I need a good way to study independently until college; my parents don't share the same understanding of music that I do, and find it a waste to pay for a private instructor.

I perform at my church regularly and play a lot of music from pop/rock books.

There are way too many reasons to why I quit band.

Many on TM are band directors, and although I'm qualified to be, I am not. Still, I'll assure you that just about every "excuse" has been heard, so tell us one we haven't heard. However, I do tutor. That said, by your own words I now wouldn't tutor you, nor do I now believe any others would. Someone must pay for our service.
