Question on mixing monette mouthpieces with non-monettes

    Thanks! That makes ton more sense, I really appreciate the detail of your answer. But whoa, super hard to do! Really fun though. It's awesome that failures on the trumpet just mean you'll get better :) Everytime I try, I have to laugh a little, but it's not hopeless, so I'm even happier! This rocks :)

    My experience has been that the Monette mouthpieces match really well with Yamaha trumpets. Sight unseen (or better unheard) I would tend to think your issue isn't with the mouthpiece but rather your approach to the C.

    You might want to try warming up on the C and do your usual routine with it for a while; not transposing, but rather let yourself own the instrument.

    Gut feeling on my part to be sure, but I amaze myself on how often my gut feeling is right.

    Listen to Vulgano Brother's gut feeling. Whenever I have a gig that requires one of my lesser used horns, that horn becomes my primary horn until I become comfortable with it or until the gig comes up!
