(rock) bands with wind / trumpet section in them?

    CAKE is good, most of their stuff has trumpet (and its fun, silly stuff)
    Also look maybe look into some rock/ska crossovers like reel big fish

    There's a ska band that I absolutely love called Streetlight Manifesto. If your band's willing to depart from traditional rock and check out some more ska-type stuff definitely look them up.

    ska is a style of music that incorporates (what seems to me to be) reggae & carribean rhythms with rock rhythms mixed with horns. Its not latin, its something different. No Doubt is a good example. If you've not checked out ska, your missing something.

    One of the really good trumpet tunes by Chicago is "Call On Me", written by their trumpet player, Lee Loughnane.
