Hi I recently put some rubber bands on my slides to help me get them in faster and to prevent them from falling out when its on my stand thing.

Are putting those Rubber bands on my slides going to effect my trumpet in any negative way?

Your horn should be fine. Thats actually a really good idea, especially for keeping the slides in if they tend to fall out.

Yes, they will leave marks! Make sure to change them at least twice a month, if not more.

Most rubber bands will eat silver. Don't know about lacquer, though.

The problem with rubber and silver is that sulphur is used in the manufacture of rubber and that really attacks silver. The raw surface of the rubber band will mar the surface of laquer, tarnish and rub away silver and rub away gold. I would not use them. The elastic bands available at sewing departments are much better. Monette issues these with his instruments. You cut off the appropriate length and tie a knot.

Most rubber bands will leave a permanent mark on silver, and it won't take very long to do it. The elastic thread Monette uses is excellent.

Why not use a hair tie?

That's what I use on my '60 Conn 6B Victor. It's been on there a year or two and hasn't harmed the finish at all.
