I'm sometimes addressed as Mr., while academically it would more correctly be Master. My Christian (given) name is my preference, or much more often, my nick name.
Ok, being that I served in the Army. I have never really understood Navy or Air Force ranking all that well. I just know your basic Marine/Army rank structure. Enlisted are E1 -E9 and Comisissioned O1- O10.

Just look at Tine Thing Helseth, or, a few gnerations earlier, Carole Dawn Rinehart.
You might end up like Alison Balsom...if you don't mind being the most ogled trumpet player in all of middle earth...then by all means blow!
My grand daughter just started playing trumpet. She had her choice of instruments, but she wanted to be like me. I'm shamelessly proud. I showed her some youtube videos of Tine Thing and other female trumpet players to influence her decision. Great role models.
